Brevard County Roots and Academic Excellence

Born and raised in Brevard County, Lauren Canina Roberson has deep ties to the community she now serves. She graduated from Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy before attending the University of Florida, where she completed her undergraduate degree in just two and a half years, graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Public Relations and a minor in Written and Oral Communication.

During her time at UF, Lauren served as an Ambassador to the College of Journalism and Communications and authored numerous articles published in newspapers and other publications throughout Florida.

She went on to attend Florida International University College of Law as a Dean’s Merit Scholar, an academic distinction awarded to top-performing students. Lauren graduated cum laude, ranking in the top 20 of her class. While in law school, she served as an Editor for the FIU Law Review and competed on the Moot Court Team, earning “Best Orator” in the 2014 FIU Law Moot Court Competition as part of the winning team.

Early Legal Experience and Prosecutorial Background

Lauren gained hands-on legal experience early in her career, including clerking for the Honorable Barbara Lagoa at the Third District Court of Appeal in Miami and interning in the felony division at the Broward County Public Defender’s Office.

In her final year of law school, she was recognized with the “Excellence in Family Law Award” for her work in the FIU Family Law Clinic and received the “Book Award” for achieving the highest grade in her advanced legal writing and research course.

After graduating, Lauren served as a civil prosecutor with the Florida Attorney General’s Office in Fort Lauderdale. There, she litigated child dependency and termination of parental rights (TPR) cases on behalf of the State of Florida. She handled hundreds of cases involving child abuse, neglect, and abandonment, frequently serving as first chair in trials.

In this role, Lauren worked closely with the State Attorney’s Office, Department of Children and Families, law enforcement agencies, and the Department of Juvenile Justice.
